KidSafe is a parental control app that helps parents manage screen time, app access, and location safety for their own children's devices. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it.
1. Who we are
KidSafe (kidssafe.app) is developed and operated by Murat Kuşlu ("we", "us"). KidSafe is designed for families: a parent installs KidSafe on their own device and, with the child's knowledge, on their child's device.
2. What we collect
We collect only the data required to provide parental controls:
- Parent account information: email address and authentication credentials.
- Child profile: first name (or nickname) and avatar chosen by the parent.
- Device information: device name, model, OS version, and battery level, shown on the parent dashboard.
- Installed app list (via Mobile Device Management): the list of apps installed on the enrolled child device, so the parent can make informed decisions about app limits.
- Screen time usage summaries: aggregate daily usage totals. App selections made with Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework remain on the child's device as opaque tokens; Apple's framework design means we never receive the identity of apps selected there.
- Location data (with permission): the child device's location, used for the family map, location history, and safe-zone (geofence) alerts.
3. What we do NOT collect
- No browsing history.
- No message, call, photo, or email content.
- No content from any app on the device.
- No advertising identifiers.
4. How we use data
Data is used solely to provide KidSafe's features to the parent of the enrolled child: enforcing the rules the parent configures, showing device status and usage, and sending safety notifications. We do not use data for advertising, marketing, or analytics profiling.
5. Mobile Device Management (MDM)
KidSafe uses Apple's Mobile Device Management protocol on the child's device with a transparent, user-approved enrollment flow. MDM is used only for: retrieving the installed app list, reading basic device information, applying parent-configured restrictions, and verifying/removing our own enrollment profile.
We do not sell, use, or disclose to third parties any data collected through MDM for any purpose, including advertising, marketing, or analytics.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell or rent personal data. We do not share personal data with third parties, except:
- Service providers strictly necessary to operate KidSafe (e.g., cloud hosting, push notification delivery), bound by confidentiality and processing only on our instructions.
- Legal requirements, if required by applicable law.
7. Children's privacy (COPPA / GDPR-K)
KidSafe processes children's data only at the direction of, and with the verifiable consent of, the child's parent or legal guardian. The parent controls what is collected, can review it in the app, and can delete it at any time by unpairing the device or deleting the family account. We collect no more data from children than is reasonably necessary to provide the service.
8. Data security
- All data in transit is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS only).
- Data at rest is stored encrypted in our database.
- MDM device identities are issued via SCEP certificates, and every MDM connection is certificate-validated.
- Access is strictly scoped: only the authenticated parent of a child can access that child's data, enforced by role-based authorization on every API endpoint.
- Our team accesses production data only for support purposes, under audit logging.
9. Data retention and deletion
- Location history is retained for a limited period and then automatically deleted.
- Unpairing a child device removes the MDM profile and stops all collection from that device.
- Deleting the family account permanently deletes all associated parent and child data from our systems.
10. Your rights
Parents may access, correct, export, or delete their family's data at any time via the app or by contacting us at muratksl@icloud.com. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
11. Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. Material changes will be announced in the app.
